Pho Pasteur—Don’t Forget the Sauce

Let’s be honest, chicken noodle soup could be the single blandest dish ever invented, poached chicken, plain noodles, and maybe some carrots or celery if you’re lucky. Pho is a noodle soup made by a chef with an ounce of self-respect. The chicken and noodles are still there (or substitute beef or duck if you’re feeling fancy), but there’s nothing wrong with that. Here’s what sets Pho Pasteur apart though, the fixins. If you order Pho, with it comes a plate of sprouts, limes, and culanto leaves. Trust a chef, of course, but trust you know your taste. After, it’s time to get the sauces going. If you like it sweet, Hoisin sauce is crack, or the chili sauce if you want it spicy. Ask me, why not both? Then, start slurping those noodles. With some hot sake to pair… (Pho-getaboutit.)

Pho Pasteur was opened in 1991, at its current location in Chinatown. It has been family owned and operated since day one. In 2017, they opened a second location in Quincy, spreading the love south.
